Technique Tuesday!!!

 

Welcome to Technique Tuesday!!  

(Sorry...I don't know why this didn't post yesterday!)

Today I am featuring the technique Split Negative....This is a really easy technique, but it makes a HUGE impact!  I like the White / Black contrast, but you could also try other colors!  How about a monochromatic color scheme? 

 

 

Technique instructions:  Stamp your image on a light colored cardstock first in dark ink.  Clean stamp and then stamp your image on dark cardstock with white or light ink.  I cut both images in half...that way I get two cards at the same time (mirror images).  Line up each side (one side light, the other side dark) and adhere together.  Adhere image to mat if desired!  On my sample, I had the reverse color mat behind the image (black/white) and then adhered the matted image to a piece of red cardstock for contrast!

Technique Tuesday!!!

 

Welcome to Technique Tuesday!!  

Today I am featuring the Dryer Sheet Technique that I will be demonstrating at my Technique University class on Monday, October 24th.  Yes, I said DRYER SHEET!!  and a USED one at that!!  I think it is perfect for winter scenes or for a muted effect!  Adding Dazzling Diamonds makes the image sparkle!!

 

Technique instructions:  · Stamp your image on neutral colored cardstock and color in if desired.  Run the image through a Xyron upside down or use spray adhesive (or any adhesive that will cover the entire image) on the front.  Apply a USED dryer sheet to exposed adhesive.  Trim dryer sheet and pour Dazzling Diamonds over it.  Rub glitter into dryer sheet.  Tap off excess glitter and finished image to your card.

Technique Tuesday!!!

Welcome to Technique Tuesday!!  

Today I am featuring the Blended Pencils Technique that I demonstrated at my Technique University class awhile ago.  This technique uses our watercolor pencils and I think the last step (adding detail with a fine black marker) really makes the image stand out!

 

Technique instructions:  · Using a light colored neutral ink, stamp a large silhouette flower image on the front of a white or kraft card base.  · Using the dominant color in your image, color around the edges of the petals, leaving the centers blank.  This coloring can be very rough and sketchy - the texture will become smooth as you add more layers of color.  · Color towards the center of the petals with your next lightest color. · Come back with the first color and blend the colors together. You will start to see the color become smooth and blended, but there will still be porous portions. Leave a little bit of exposed cardstock at the center of the flowers.  · Using the lightest color pencil, color over the entire petal to blend all the colors together. The texture of the color will now be smooth and waxy.  · Come back one last time with the darkest color pencil and intensify the darkest portions of the petal. · Color the top of the flower with two of the lighter pencils.  · Color the other flowers in the image with a charcoal grey pencil - this coloring can be very light and sketchy - you do not need to blend this - just use basic coloring and shading.  · On the main flower image, come back and blend the grey on the stem and leaves with the lighter colored pencil.  · Using a very fine black pen, add detail to the flowers.

Technique Tuesday!!!

Welcome to Technique Tuesday!!  

Today I am featuring the Faux Linen Technique that I demonstrated at my Technique University class last night.  This makes a wonderful background for shabby chic cards....

 

TECHNIQUE INSTRUCTIONS:  ~ Stamp a background on glossy white cardstock  ~ Sand the cardstock in a vertical direction  ~ Sand the cardstock horizontally  ~ Keep sanding in each direction until all the gloss is gone  ~ Sponge the cardstock with ink (the darker the ink, the more obvious the sanded lines will be)  ~ Stamp additional images on your background if desired  ~ Sand the cardstock again in both directions to lighten the sponged color and get the Faux Linen appearance

Technique Tuesday!!

Welcome to Technique Tuesday!!  

Today I am featuring the Stained Mosaic Technique.  I decided that I didn't want to have to "create" the mosaic stamp more than one time, so I took an old clear block (or you could use a piece of wood), some leftover rubber from my stamps and voila!  A Mosaic rubber stamp!! Just cut pieces of the rubber to desired shape and size and place on clear block, leaving some space between for the "grout".

TECHNIQUE INSTRUCTIONS:  After creating your mosaic "stamp", stamp your image on neutral cardstock.  Use bright colors for best effect.  Ink your mosaic stamp with VersaMark and stamp over your colored image.  Add clear embossing powder, tap off excess, heat with a heat gun until it is melted.  Rub a black ink pad over the image.  Buff image with a paper towel to take black ink off the embossed parts of the image to create the look of grout.  Embellish card as desired.

Technique Tuesday!!

 

Welcome to Technique Tuesday!!  

Today I am featuring the Baby Wipe Stamp Pad Technique.  This was the very first Technique I featured during my monthly Technique University classes....everyone's turned out a little differently, but they were all beautiful!!  In the example above, I used Melon Mambo, Regal Rose and Daffodil Delight.  The background butterfly stamps were stamped once full strength and then stamped a second time above it without re-inking the stamp.  This gives you the same color, just lighter.

 

TECHNIQUE INSTRUCTIONS:  Using several colors of re-inkers, put small drops of ink on a baby wipe in a random design.  (I folded several baby wipes together and placed them on a paper plate.)  Tap the stamp on the baby wipe, just like you would a normal stamp pad, to pick up the multiple colors of ink.  Stamp your image on cardstock.

Technique Tuesday!!

Welcome to Technique Tuesday!!  

Today I am featuring the Mirror Image or Reflection Technique.  The glossy "reflected" area is hard to see in the photograph, but IRL it looks like water!!  The sample was done using our Lovely As A Tree stamp set (IBC, pg 114; item # 115026; $27.95). 

 

TECHNIQUE INSTRUCTIONS:  Ink and stamp the image onto cardstock.  Ink your image with the same ink and stamp  it on a piece of acetate.  Flip the piece of acetate over so that your stamped image is upside down and stamped image is face down.  Line it up with the first image to create a reflection.  Place the acetate on the cardstock.  Rub over the acetate, transferring the image from the acetate to the cardstock.  If desired, to create a “water” or “ice” effect, apply a thin coat of Crystal Effects to the image (that was transferred from the acetate) and surrounding area.  Let dry thoroughly.  Add to card and embellish.

Technique Tuesday....

 Welcome to Technique Tuesday!!  

Today I am featuring the technique we made at our Technique University class last night (IF Hurricane Irene lets us!) -- Coloring with Watercolor Wonder Crayons!  I first tried this technique at my upline's meeting and fell in love with it!  So easy!!!  I immediately had to order all four color collections!  

The Watercolor Wonder Crayons are in the Idea Book & Catalog on page 202, they are sold by each color collection (10 colors per collection) and are $16.95 per collection.

Use them with the Aqua Painter (IBC, pg 203; item #103954; $16.95) or the Blender Pens (IBC, pg 203; item #102845; $9.95).

Watercolor Wonder Crayons

• Using either StazOn ink or a waterproof ink (like SU’s Basic Black or Basic Gray), stamp an image on a piece of watercolor paper.   
• Let dry thoroughly.   
• Using an Aqua Painter, pick up color (rub the moistened tip of the Aqua Painter on the tip of the crayon) and paint your image.   
• You can vary the intensity of the color with the saturation of the Aqua Painter.
